Pipe Repair for Burst, Cracked, and Leaking Lines

Pipe repair is usually a section job, not a whole-house job. We find the exact spot that failed, cut it out, and splice in sound pipe that matches what you have. You get the price before any work starts, and we tell you straight if the pattern points to something bigger.

What pipe repair covers

Fix the damaged section, not the whole house

When a supply pipe cracks, bursts, or corrodes through, the rest of the system is often still sound. This is the part of our plumbing services that handles the water lines feeding your fixtures. If you see water but cannot find the source, start with leak detection. If the trouble is the main drain under the house or yard, that is sewer line repair.

Burst pipes

Age, high water pressure, or a hard hit can split a line open. We stop the water, cut out the failed length, and put the run back in service.

Cracked and split pipe

Hairline cracks leak slowly and steadily, often behind a wall. We remove the cracked piece instead of wrapping it and hoping it holds.

Pinhole leaks

Tiny holes from corrosion on copper or galvanized pipe. One pinhole gets a repair. Several on the same run means that run needs replacing.

Failed joints and fittings

Elbows, tees, and threaded joints seep as they age. We rebuild the joint with fresh fittings so it stops weeping.

Freeze and impact damage

An exposed line on a rare frosty night in the inland valleys, or a pipe hit during other work. Same fix, plus insulation or a better route.

Short reroutes

When the damaged line runs under a slab or through a finished room, rerouting a short section can beat tearing up floors.

Know your pipe

What kind of pipe do you have?

Pick the one that looks like yours. Each material fails in its own way, and the fix depends on it. You can usually see a stretch of pipe at the water heater, under a sink, or where a line comes out of the wall by a hose bib.

Pipe fileCopper
How to spot it

Shiny orange-brown when new, dull brown or green with age. Soldered joints at every fitting.

What usually fails

Pinhole leaks that start on the inside, most often where hard water and fast flow wear the wall thin. Green crust at a joint means it has been weeping.

What we usually do

Cut out the bad section and solder or press in new copper. If pinholes keep showing up on the same run, we talk about replacing that run.

Signs of a pipe problem

How a damaged pipe gives itself away

Some pipe failures are loud. Most stay quiet for weeks first, soaking into drywall, subfloor, or soil. The sooner a small leak gets fixed, the smaller the repair and the cleanup.

If a pipe bursts
1Close the main shutoff, usually where the line enters the house or by the meter.
2Open a low faucet outside to drain what is left in the lines.
3Call (805) 232-8380 and tell us where the water is.
Stains or bubbling paintBrown rings on a ceiling, or paint that blisters on a wall that shares a bathroom or kitchen.
Running water you cannot placeA hiss or trickle inside a wall when every tap and toilet in the house is off.
The meter movesTurn everything off and watch the water meter. If the dial still creeps, water is going somewhere.
Low pressure in one spotOne fixture or one side of the house goes weak while the rest is normal.
Brown or metallic waterRusty water at the tap often means old steel pipe corroding from the inside.
Damp floor or soggy yardA warm spot on the floor, a wet patch in the yard, or a musty smell under a sink.

How we do it

A pipe repair, step by step

Water off, area protectedWe shut off the affected line, cover floors and furniture, and deal with the water that already got out.
Find the real failureWe open only what we need to and look at the pipe on both sides, so we know if it is one bad spot or a run that is wearing out.
Price before work startsYou hear what we found, what we recommend, and the upfront price. Nothing gets cut until you say yes.
Cut out and spliceThe damaged length comes out back to sound pipe, and new pipe goes in with fittings made for that material.
Test, clean up, recapWe bring the line back to pressure, check every joint, clean the work area, and walk you through what we did.
Cost factors

What moves the price of a pipe repair

Every job gets an upfront price before any work starts, based on what we find on site. These are the things that make one repair bigger than another.

A repair makes sense when the damage sits in one spot and the pipe around it is sound. When leaks keep showing up in new places, or the house still runs on galvanized steel or polybutylene, repiping usually costs less over time than fixing one leak after another. We will tell you which side of that line you are on.

01Where the pipe isAn exposed pipe in a garage is quicker to reach than one inside a wall, a ceiling, or under a slab.
02Pipe material and sizeCopper, steel, PEX, and CPVC each take different fittings and tools. Larger lines take more.
03How much has failedOne bad joint is a small repair. A run with several pinholes is a longer one.
04Opening and closing upDrywall, tile, cabinets, or concrete in the way add access and patch work.
05Water cleanupA pipe that has leaked for a while can mean drying out the area before the repair.
06Reroute or straight swapReplacing pipe in place is simpler than running a new path around an obstacle.
Local conditions

What our coast and valleys do to pipes

Pipes across Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties wear out in a few predictable ways. Knowing which one you are dealing with changes how we repair it.

Coastal salt air

Corrosion on exposed metal

Homes near the ocean see copper and steel corrode faster where pipe is exposed: hose bibs, water heater connections, garages, and crawl spaces. We use corrosion-resistant fittings on those runs.

Hard water

Scale inside the line

A lot of Ventura County runs on hard water. Minerals build up inside the pipe and wear copper thin at elbows where water moves fast, which is where pinholes tend to start.

Older housing

Steel supply, iron drains

Older neighborhoods in both counties still have galvanized supply lines and cast iron drains. They usually fail at threaded joints and hubs first, so we check those while we are there.

Questions

Pipe repair questions we hear most

Have one that is not here? Call and ask. We would rather sort it out on the phone than guess.

Most of the time a pipe repair on the damaged section is all you need, as long as the rest of the line is sound. We look at the pipe on both sides of the failure before we recommend anything. A full repipe only comes up when leaks keep returning in new spots or the material itself is failing.
